The Arts Resource Hub (ARH) was set up by the National Arts Council (NAC) in August 2019 to provide arts freelancers in Singapore with the necessary resources to sustainably continue their practice, unlock new opportunities and grow meaningful careers. Freelancers are essential to the vibrancy of our arts eco-system as their varied skills and capacity contribute to a range of roles across the industry.
Since its initial conceptualisation to respond to the significant proportion of arts freelancers in the sector, extensive consultations were held with the arts community in 2018 to better tailor the ARH’s offerings to suit their needs. Over 370 members of the arts community were engaged, across arts disciplines and practices, such as arts education, the performing, literary and visual arts, technical and production management, etc. Key concerns raised were challenges in finding job opportunities, a lack of legal knowledge and insurance coverage, fairness in hiring practices and easy digital access to resources. These consultations with the community have informed the ARH’s current range of resources. To ensure its relevance and accessibility, the content presented on the site has also been developed in close collaboration with industry professionals from the arts sector.
