Kopi With Kheng: Building Sustainable Creative Careers
12 – 15 March 2025
Veteran actor Kheng Hua Tan recently helmed a four-day panel series aimed at helping independent creatives build sustainable careers. Drawing inspiration from LA's creative community events, KopiWithKheng brought together industry experts to share insights across four key areas essential for creative professionals.

Essential Wellness: The Five Pillars
Dr Geraldine Tan (Principal Registered Psychologist, The Therapy Room) highlighted the importance of holistic well-being through five essential pillars:
· Physical wellness: Treating rest as seriously as work commitments
· Cognitive health: Pursuing interests beyond your creative practice
· Emotional balance: Creating space for personal emotional processing
· Social connections: Intentional time for solitude and relationships
· Spiritual growth: Nurturing your creative spirit
Moderation across these pillars is key as well as tailoring each pillar to one's individual needs.

Legal Literacy for Creatives
Bryan Tan (Partner, Reed Smith) emphasised the importance of protecting creative work through proper contracts. Essential elements include:
· Clear payment terms and deadlines
· Portfolio usage rights
· Written agreements for all professional engagements
The Four P's of Personal Branding
Pat Law (Founder, The N$Fw Company) shared a framework for building a distinctive creative brand:
· Promotion: Strategic visibility
· Price: Value positioning
· People: Target audience identification
· Personality: Authentic brand voice
A crucial insight: Trying to appeal to everyone means connecting with no one.
