The Theatre Green Book (Singapore) is a free, open-access resource developed to support more sustainable theatre-making in Singapore. Adapted from the UK’s Theatre Green Book framework, the Singapore edition contextualises sustainability practices for local realities — recognising the unique needs, constraints, and working conditions of artists, producers, venues, and arts organisations here.
The resource is designed for the wider theatre community — from independent artists and small companies to producers, venue operators, and larger institutions — offering practical guidance across three key areas: productions, operations, and buildings. Rather than prescribing a one-size-fits-all approach, the Theatre Green Book (Singapore) aims to support gradual, achievable change through shared learning and collective action.

An overview of what the Theatre Green Book (Singapore) is and what it covers.
Initiated by The Theatre Practice (TTP), and undertaken by the Theatre Green Book (Singapore) core team members: Ang Xiao Ting (Independent Artist), Elizabeth Chan (Researcher), Shridar Mani (Independent Producer), Kuo Jian Hong, Joey Cheng and Jasmine Lim (The Theatre Practice), together with Low Jia Han (Graphic Designer), the team drew from international sustainability frameworks alongside local insights gathered through interviews and productions involving practitioners, organisations, and venue partners across Singapore.
As part of the development process, the resource guidelines were applied to two productions (Pickle Party and Scenes from the Climate Era), to test and refine the framework within real working environments, helping to ensure that the recommendations remain practical, relevant, and adaptable to local production contexts.

The Arts Resource Hub (ARH) supported the development of the Theatre Green Book (Singapore) by enabling the research, consultation, production, and sector engagement processes that shaped the project. Through this initiative, ARH also facilitated opportunities for knowledge-sharing, community-building, and ongoing dialogue around sustainable practices within Singapore’s theatre ecosystem.
The Theatre Green Book (Singapore) reflects a growing collective commitment within the sector to reconsider how theatre is made — encouraging environmentally responsible practices while sustaining the creative and operational realities of arts workers and organisations in Singapore.
